Barcelona have made contact with Manchester City to explore the possibility of signing Rodri, according to Xavi Campos, Head of Sports at Catalunya RÃ dio.
Campos reports that a senior Barcelona official contacted Manchester City regarding the Spanish midfielder. However, Barça are not alone in showing interest, with City also receiving multiple approaches from Real Madrid.
According to Campos, Manchester City’s current position is clear: the club do not want to sell Rodri this summer.
Rodri’s preference could favour Madrid
Campos also reports that Rodri could be more inclined towards a move to Real Madrid. The midfielder is from Madrid, and his entire family is based there, which could make a return to his hometown particularly attractive.
That said, Rodri would not reject the possibility of joining Barcelona, according to Campos.
The latest developments make the situation even more interesting. Rodri currently has one year remaining on his Manchester City contract, with his deal expiring in June 2027. City are hoping to convince the 30-year-old to sign a new contract, while Real Madrid are actively working on a potential deal for the midfielder.
Rodri has also made headlines today for a different reason: Manchester City confirmed that the Spain international has undergone a minor back procedure after experiencing prolonged discomfort. The club said he will now begin a short rehabilitation period, although no specific return date has been given.
With Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City all connected to the situation, Rodri’s future is becoming one of the major stories of this summer’s transfer window.
